This CPR, AED & First Aid certification class is taught in hybrid format, with online learning as well as face-to-face hands-on training. The online learning will take place over the course of two weeks using a free course website, ending with a face-to-face skills session on Longwood University’s campus. Successful completion of the class will yield a two-year certification in CPR & AED, and a three-year certification in First Aid.
The National Safety Council courses in First Aid, CPR & AED meet the international standards for Emergency Cardiac Care, as well as OSHA standards for workplace safety. These courses also meet the Virginia Department of Education requirements for teacher licensure.
- Textbook will be purchased separately at the Longwood Bookstore. (Approximate cost is $22.00.)
- Participants must bring the book to the face-to-face skills session in order to receive a certificate.
- CPR mask and first aid training supplies will be provided (included in course fee).
- Dress in comfortable clothes for the face-to-face skills session.

A minimum of ten students must enroll in order for each class to run.

Dr. Thompson is a professor of athletic training and kinesiology, and she has been teaching First Aid, CPR & AED for more than 15 years. As a certified athletic trainer for more than 20 years, Dr. Thompson is an expert in the acute care of injuries and illnesses.
